Five Classic Songs Made Into Children’s Books

As an illustrator whose favorite projects are ones with music involved, I am excited to share with you some of the best songs I’ve found illustrated into children’s books.

Songs have their own way of telling the story. Listeners hear sound effects, harmonies, ambience, and lyrics that paint a picture in the mind through sound. There’s something extra special when a beloved song is transformed into a visual adventure. It gives listeners a whole new perspective of the song.

    Okay, truth is, I am a bit biased on this one, but goodness did it turn out to be a beautiful book! Written by the fantastic songwriter, Kevin Russell and illustrated by Katie Terrell Ramos, the vibrant illustrations are all made with hand-carved rubber stamps and the story is so full of imagination. Kids and parents love the song and it’s a delightful dip into the magical world of a pilgrim with a world-changing dream to build the moon.

2. “Every Little Thing”

by Bob Marley, adopted by Cedella Marley, illustrated by Vanessa Brantley-Newton

A little boy learns that everything will be okay, no matter what challenges he faces in this illustrated tale based on the lyrics to “Three Little Birds” by Bob Marley. The strong message is felt through a colorful and inspiring story.
